Mia Rowe Textiles
Dissertation title:
The Use of Habitual and Unconventional Materials in Textile Design.
Introduction:
"This dissertation will discuss and explore the use of hair as a fibre in both a traditional and contemporary context. I will be exploring the link between physical touch and material, as well as the relationship that emerges from the use of human hair in textile design. Attitudes towards hair as a fibre will be considered through referencing designers who use hair within their practice and also through considering the perceived disgust that comes from the use of human hair. This dissertation both reflects on the history of hair and questions its use in contemporary design, with focus on the embodiment of symbolic values when the textile is interacted and engaged with."
